Known as the "Cotton City", Akola is one of the largest producers of cotton. Dr. Panjabrao Deshmukh Krishi Vidyapeeth (P.D.K.V.) Akola was established in 1969 and is amongst the first few agrarian universities of Maharashtra. The city also has a growing industrial base, educational institutions, and healthcare facilities. Marathi is the main language spoken here, and the culture reflects a beautiful blend of traditional and modern lifestyles.
